Enhanced Creations is closing down. We know this could be a shock to a lot of you QBers who used to visit this page and its once very active wwwboard; we also know you were expecting our projects to be finished, expecially the RT Engine and the announced DirectQB 2.0... We're sorry to tell you that there works will never be finished, by us at least. We're tired. Tired of a lot of things. You know this page didn't get updated for about two months, and there are several reasons for that, other than our studies. We're tired of QB, and of its huge limitations to our creativity; even with lotsa asm boosts (the RT engine is completely written in assembly, and only interfaces with QB for player input and some other minor things, unlike some voices around here and there, that claimed RT to be written in QB; no, it has been written for QB) lots of limits are still there, and the most important is memory and real mode programming. QB works in real mode, and that's really BAD. Also DOS works in real mode (excluding DPMI) and that's why DOS is dead. We're tired to work for a platform with no future, and we want to move towards other directions, though we still don't know where to go. One thing is for sure: we'll not continue working in QB anymore; in this last months we've never found ourselves working in QB, and also that brought us to think time had come to leave the scene. QuickBasic has been a great experience, a big laboratory where to grow our knowledge, and QB itself led us to learn asm to improve it, and that's fine. But now it's time to go somewhere else. Some once gone QB master used to return after some time, but we think we'll never come back again...
So, we think EC has been an important part of the QB community, and we thought it to be fair to drop you this message, without vanishing like others did. We're also leaving on this page the links to all our works, including a modified version of the assembly tutorial by Petter (different from the one published on QB:tm) and the full source of the RTE demo released a couple of months ago; we hope someone else will take this asm source and will be expert enough to continue our work, maybe improving it...
A very big "Thank you" goes first to Chuck and then to Marcade: you have been really fair to host the EC site on the ec.quickbasic.com domain for free... We'll never forget your kindness! Expecial thanks goes to Marcade for changing the EC wwwboard with a custom one, when things were going bad with lots of board hackers and we were away.
Thanks to SonicBlue that once made a custom wwwboard for us for free. That didn't last for long, but it was really nice.
Also thanks to ZKman for his QB:The Magazine, the only real QB-related magazine together with QB Times, that brought QB to the spotlight for a whole year; the QB scene will never be the same now that's without it. Also thank you for promoting our softwares!
And finally thanks to Maz, Terminator_Z, The Car, Tek, Leroy, JQB45, Jorden, Wafn, LordQB, Nek, Pete, SEAV, 19day, all the people who submited external worlds for Wetspot II, the many users of DirectQB and the fans of RTE, the guys on ICQ and all the others we forget here. Thanks a lot to all of you for your support; without you EC would have never been the same!
Well, as all things come to an end, also EC is closing down. If you feel sad, don't worry: we believe there're still lots of great QB programmers out there, ready to start where we end. Anyway, if you feel/want/need to drop us a message, our old email addresses are still active; we can't promise you a reply, but we'll read all the mail.
